You've Got Questions...
We've Got Answers

Parents/guardians are an integral part of the therapeutic process; therefore, the first session(s) are held, in part, together to ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed, to get your parental/guardian input, and to set some goals.  After this, most minor clients are seen alone with a parent/guardian joining sessions at least occasionally, if not more if necessary, to be sure that we are all on the same page.

What populations do you serve?

In your first session we will go over necessary paperwork, answer any questions you may have, and discuss what you want to work on with your therapist.  We will also begin to gather background information that is helpful to your care.  Having said that, the most important thing is to become acquainted with your therapist and the space so that you feel comfortable.

What will my first session with a therapist be like?

Hal·cy·on - /ˈhalsēən/
According to the dictionary, Halcyon refers to a period of time in the past that was happy and peaceful.  We often think calm, serene, still, quiet, and joyous when thinking about the word halcyon.  For a client, this could refer to the quieted mind that is willing to be open to the winds of change, to explore what lies beneath, and the willingness to make adjustments for a more fulfilled life.

First, what does Halcyon mean and how do you pronounce that?

Q

What approaches do you use in session and what issues do your therapists address?

What does it take for therapy to be successful?

I would like my minor child to be seen, how does that work?

At this time, Halcyon Wellness serves clients ages 10 and up.

Most of our therapists use an eclectic approach in sessions, meaning they use a variety of approaches so that they can meet the client where they are.  Most common approaches you might experience are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution focused therapy, behavioral modification, family systems, and relational-cultural therapy (RCT).  We work on various concerns in our practice including anxiety, depression, transitional/adjustment issues, family changes, academic/school concerns, self-esteem concerns, trauma and abuse, and so much more.

The outcome of your treatment depends largely on your willingness to engage in the process, which may at times, result in considerable discomfort. We cannot guarantee that your circumstances or behaviors change, however, we are committed to supporting you in your journey.  It has been out experience that therapy done right is usually challenging yet rewarding!

Do you offer school-based therapy?

Yes we do!  We currently have students in various middle and high schools in the area.  Therapy within the schools is not appropriate for every child, but it can be a convenient option at times.
